1. Why the Manager’s Schedule Blows Creative Productivity – Meetings – Lifehacker

A really interesting article on why getting mid-day might be affecting your potrential to do things. Even more interesting, i realised this was definitely my case…

Why the Manager’s Schedule Blows Creative Productivity – Meetings – Lifehacker:

“I find one meeting can sometimes affect a whole day. A meeting commonly blows at least half a day, by breaking up a morning or afternoon. But in addition there’s sometimes a cascading effect. If I know the afternoon is going to be broken up, I’m slightly less likely to start something ambitious in the morning. I know this may sound oversensitive, but if you’re a maker, think of your own case. Don’t your spirits rise at the thought of having an entire day free to work, with no appointments at all? Well, that means your spirits are correspondingly depressed when you don’t. And ambitious projects are by definition close to the limits of your capacity. A small decrease in morale is enough to kill them off.

    This resonates with me deeply.”

    * after a meeting yesterday i needed to add a couple of hours to perform the task i set, mostly because i needed much more concentration to start the thing and couldn’t properly evaluate the time that would be needed to finnish the modifications – i finnished work round 11pm instead of 8pm.

  2. Spider Web and typography project

    * while working on a new project (about space and typography) i came across this script Spiderweb for Scriptographer.

This script draws lines from points at a set distance around a shape to random points on the same path. The end result is a bit like a spider web.

** It has been ages since i last used Scriptographer; it was when Juerg and I were at school together, back in the ecal days. I will now dig in the source code and bend the script to my own needs.

  3. The bizarre feeling of autodeletion…

    i knew it…
    i shouldn’t have tested this code live…

basically it is a mini ftp manager written in PHP
This morning i was working on the account deletion scripts

    and tested…
    and deleted…

when i realised what i did i had the very bizarre impression of the end of a world… something not really painful (i have backup) but annoying
Somehow: the code deleted itself, a bit like a suicide.

    * I’m in front of the computer chatting with Pierre about that feeling of autodeltion because of my lack of adequate skills.

  4. Electronest Aggregated & Electronic Presence

Today we published 2 new pages on the Electronest website:
    Electronest Aggregated and Electronic Presence.
Both are resulting from frustration; Electronest Aggregated allow visitors to have a more global perception of our different website (there’s still tons of work to be done to make the experience smoother). Electronic Presence will be used as a ressource page on the concept of Electronic Presence.

  5. Laboratoire, a collection of recipes to produce culture, art and design with computers

    * This small edition is using a japanese binding – on one side of the paper sheet you have the content one can access normally through the pages, on the other side there’s a sort of diagram map of the project I did spatialised by keywords, where each keyword has its own coordinates and the project are placed in the middle of those points.

** The original website is gone

  6. TXT – electronic books in train stations

This is our (Pierre Terrier’s and I) BA project.
TXT is a (fake) company selling electronic books in train station in Switzerland; the spreads below are extracts from the annual report of the company. Photography, images, patterns, display, text and content are describing the universe of the brand, designed using home made software, specifically developped for the branding of the publishing company

    * update: this work has been featured in Altitude, Contemporary Swiss Graphic Design by Gestalten Verlag in the Editorial Design section
