1. Electronest Aggregated & Electronic Presence

Today we published 2 new pages on the Electronest website:
    Electronest Aggregated and Electronic Presence.
Both are resulting from frustration; Electronest Aggregated allow visitors to have a more global perception of our different website (there’s still tons of work to be done to make the experience smoother). Electronic Presence will be used as a ressource page on the concept of Electronic Presence.

  2. World Wide Web, Sharing and the Internet

    lhc2.jpg

A very interresting set of radio show on BBC about the creation of CERN; CERN happens to be also the place where World Wide Web has been invented, incidentally when one of the laboratory needed to access informations dispatched on many different computers – from then Gopher quickly got replaced. History will ever remember Sir Tim Berners Lee. It quickly has been legally declared Public Domain – CERN could then not claim ownership but nobody else either.
There’s a very nice part of it which summarize quite perfectly the generosity behind the open source, and its root one can still find in the Science community.

I quite love this quote: Francis Farley

This [the Internet] usefull thing was a totally unexpected byproduct; you cannot plan the usefull part of science. What you can only do is to support the right guys let them do what they think is important – and out of that will come usefull applications

    * thanks to Dodeckahedron for pointing out to me that today (10th september 2008) was the frist beam at CERN.

A portal to celebrate the 500th face: Kitsuné Friends all together, with their website.

After a few seconds the faces move.
Each friend having a website is linked from here.

  6. Codename Nemo

    Codename Nemo

It’s a new way of managing files. Or rather not manage files. Currently it’s a cross between a calendar and a file browser with labels. It’s a free/open source GTK application written in C#.

  8. my logs study – (memory)

the aim of this project is to have a look at statistic generated by access on the server disk space, trying to decrypt the beauty of these lines of codes representing the activity of my electronic presence, i attended to use them as what they are: raw data, to generate different way of representing these activities.

the continuation of this project took place under a new name: «electronic presence».

  9. Automatic Guess System – AGS v0.1: cheating search

Currently under development, AGS should provide combined with some url rewrite rules (.htaccess) a kind of search box but directly in the url. By using the semantic CMS on the back-end, with a specific element called so far ‘url’ and pre-published (not publicly visible), the administrator has the possibility to influence the guessing system.

  10. Basic setup, & todo list

    - dev of the «HTML default» templates

    - insert bits of UTW in templates

    - start testing the connections in between the semantic CMS and Wordpress standard install
    - add plugins to fit all/any requiered features

  11. desktop realtime electronic presence

desktop realtime electronic presence, part of the info_hub research.
It reflects activity and logs using a realtime generated desktop wall paper – a non obstrusive glimpse at real time electronic presence.

  12. mass media unit (memory)

MMD contains a screen, loudspeaker, stroboscope, 2 gaz bottles (one filled with N2O, the other with oxygen) The differents parts of the MMD are activated by the presence and the frequency of words Each word is displayed on the screen during a very short time (eye memory, flicking effect), a sound marks each second creating the base rythm, another sound is played for each displayed word. the stroboscope is activated depending on certain words. the gaz will be diffused more or less fast inside the helmet The MMD has also a camera which will display on an external monitor the head of the user, and 4 tiltswitch giving the user the ability to go faster or slower. After a certain period of time, the MMD will stop itself.

  13. Wj live event at Brussels furniture fair

We developed a specific software for the performance – its aims was to aggregate content from news site and to display in realtime the resulting words on the screens. The display/design/setting of these words was directly generated by various parameters related to the music played by the dj.

  14. time

timetable / organisation of the articles on a timeline basis; the days are organized horizontally.

possible development: interface: a topbar, with a representation of the whole space (map), used for scrolling the window’s space. list of days: show/hide, load earlier reblogs. tags list: filter the content on the page. trends per day: use the tags to define the keywords for one day, or a couple of days.

  15. using flock

    and testing…

flock is a really nice browser, based on firefox and incorporating the tools to publish and read online – it integrates also perfectly with del.icio.us. Looks like it’s really close to some of my thoughts around the info_hub project…

  20. raw information hub – taxonomic reading

    ranking the tags

these series of experiments around ranking give a simple overview of the traffic related to the r-echos articles. It gives insight on trends and zeitgeist.
the main issue with this techniques is that it gives only the most accessed clues, which produce an information-rich model.

What would be the next steps:
1/ the less accessed articles and tags – what is the less trendy? is there a rare pearl in there?
2/ the favorites – there are always a few websites in the whole that interrests me a bit more
3/ the weight of a tag – the more articles are defined by a keyword should affect the whole system
4/ the weight of an article – …

3 and 4, at first sight, are based on an information-rich model as well; however the datas generated by this bias could be used in a different way

    update:
solution 3/: (beta) each time an article is defined by a keyword, this keyword get one point. 10 most accessed tags via articles
