Teaching technique:
first the basic facts of a subject are learned, without worrying about details. Then as learning progresses, more and more details are introduced -
we must be extremely careful with context. When you recall an earlier mental model of something, and then augment that model, you may be rewriting the earlier model. In other words, you're not just adding to an in-place model, but in fact replacing an earlier model with a newer, expanded one. So what are you doing to ensure the foundational models stay intact? Are you repeating the earlier model, and adding resolution? Or are you just writing about the "new stuff" without regard for the existing material?

Whatever stupidities Amazon is guilty of, none of them are hanging offenses. The problems they have with labeling and handling contested categories is a problem with all categorization systems since the world began. Metadata is worldview; sorting is a political act.

So if we are really talking about design as a business strategy, if we consider design as more than just choosing the right colors, fonts and images, if we really had the chance to sit in a meeting with the board of directors of a news publishing company, would we just suggest to redesign the newspaper?

* it is interesting to read this sentence (in the Google server farm context) – it breaks with the wrong assumption we daily makes as with the relationship in between hosting / storage space – when it's the bandwidth that in fact cost a lot more.
